Third time is the charm! Well, that would apply to the JOOLA Collin Johns Scorpeus 16mm 3S Pickleball Paddle if the first two hadn’t been so good. The third roll out of Collin’s namesake paddle features a new UPA-A Approval rating (not eligible to be used in USA Pickleball sanctioned events) and a precise tweak to the 16mm Propulsion Core. The premise of the core stays the same, a honeycomb core is still suspended in a foam perimeter to trampoline behind the ball, but with the tweaks it returns less energy. Don’t worry, this still has slam-happy pop when you need it, but it focuses more on control with a soft touch, vibration dampening, plow through ability, and the expanded sweet spot you would expect from a standard shaped paddle.

The JOOLA Collin Johns Scorpeus 16mm 3S Pickleball Paddle maintains its 8.0-ounce weight, maneuverable 16” standard shape, and 5.25” handle so that it can continue to thrive in the hands of precise control players and deadly defensive players alike. Also returning is the well-loved Charged Carbon hitting surface. Spanning the 10.75” by 8” face, this surface offers rigidity for a crisp feel and plenty of dwell time, and a coarse texture that imparts spin that completes this controllable paddle’s deep bag of tricks.

The United Pickleball Association of America (UPA-A) recently announced the launch of its s Interim Certification Program with the goal setting new benchmarks for paddle performance and consistency in the sport of pickleball. Starting in 2025, all professional pickleball players participating in UPA events, including those in the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) and Major League Pickleball (MLP), will be required to use UPA-A approved paddles.
